SportsDay: ARLINGTON — At today’s Big 12 Media Day Session At AT&T Statium a reporter grabbed the UT’s star quarterback’s attention.
“Sam,” a reporter said before pausing, “do you like Baker Mayfield?”
There were laughs from the media contingent on hand, but Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger stayed calm.
“Yeah, I do,” he said. “I respect his game a lot.”
The question was something many expected before Tuesday’s Big 12 Media Day session at AT&T Stadium, considering what Mayfield said about his Red River rival on Norman’s SportsTalk 1400 (KREF). Mayfield, a Lake Travis alum, took numerous shots at Ehlinger, an Austin Westlake alum, “He couldn’t even beat Lake Travis, so I don’t really care about his opinion on anything winning,” Mayfield said. “You know, Westlake’s a great program, but the two best quarterbacks to come out of there are Drew Brees and Nick Foles. Sam can stay down there in Texas. “That’ll stir the pot,” Mayfield added. “He doesn’t like me, and I hope he knows I don’t like him either.”
Today at #Big12Media, Ehlinger showed a lot of composure in the pocket. Just like he did in last years Red River Shoot Out (24-35, 314YDS passing, 72YDS rushing and 5 TDS).
Unlike Mayfield, who seems to never pass up the opportunity to try and make a jab or headline at Ehlinger’s expense when given the chance.
But, if this isn’t enough for you to give Ehlinger the Bigger Man award over Mayfield, lets go to their physical stats:
Ehlinger coming in at 6 ft 2 in, 230lb. Absolute unit.
Baker in a soaking wet t-shirt is 6 ft 0 in, 215lb.
After this thorough investigation, I think we call agree there is no doubt Ehlingers bigger both mentally and physically.
