This play puts Herman and Ehlinger in elite duo company with the likes of Batman and Robin, Bonnie and Clyde, Bert and Ernie, Han Solo and Chewbacca.
As a fan, you can only dream this is the communication between your Coach and QB1 on the most important play of the game, maybe even season.
Coach Herman doesn’t over analyze the situation. He doesn’t say too much. Doesn’t say too little. Just two perfect statements, “don’t throw it unless he’s butt naked” and “stay in bounds.”
But while Coach can draw up the perfect play, your QB1 has to listen and trust the call. It takes two to tango, or in this case to beat Oklahoma State.
If you watch the play carefully, Ehlinger did have Duvernay open:

But was he butt naked? Nope. Way too many clothes on him and around him. Ehlinger remembering his coaches words, tucked it in, turned up field and got the first down to seal the game.
The haters will kick and scream, wanting to point to other Coach/QB combos like Saban/Tua or Dabo/Lawrence. Get out of here with that nonsense.
Being the best duo is about more than just talent. Its about Energy. Respect. Love. Trust. Feel.
Show me one play where Saban/Tua or Dabo/Lawrence spoke to each other with such ease and class, then went out and executed a game winning play. Ill wait…
