Breaking: Texas Fires Defensive Coordinator Todd Orlando

About damn time. The fact Orlando made it to Sunday is honestly surprising. Obviously though he and Herman go way back so this had to be tough for Herman. But when you produce the 108th best defense in the country while having the top 5 recruiting class in back to back years, you get fired. Especially when you’re one of the highest paid DC’s in football, making $1.7 million a year.

Just a valuable lesson for all the aspiring coaches out there, being responsible for a defense that allows 446.3 yards and 28.9 points per game is never a good look.

As for his replacement, I’m hearing former Rutgers head coach Chris Ash is a top candidate to replace Orlando. Herman and Ash go back from their time in Ohio State, when Ash was the co-DC at Ohio State from 2014-2015 before taking the job at Rutgers:

Personally, I don’t like the move and rather stay away from the Ohio State coaching tree. Or coaches who were just fired mid season for going 8-32 over the last three and half years. Unless we can get No. 5 on my list:
