The One Argument For Not Firing Shaka Smart

Greg Brown III.

If you don’t follow high school basketball recruiting, Greg Brown III is a top 10 basketball recruit in the nation, who is an absolute MONSTER and has all the makings to be both a college basketball and NBA star:

So, to no surprise the dude has offers from every school in this country; Texas, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, etc. You name a school, they want him.

Luckily for Texas, Greg is a local Austin kid who plays for Vandegrift and his Dad, Greg Brown Jr., was a former two-time honorable mention All-Big 12 free safety for the Longhorns.

Unluckily for Texas, Shaka Smart has had a dumpster fire career at Texas but holds the keys to Greg Brown III being in a UT jersey next season.

Now, a little over a week ago after the blowout loss to Iowa State, if you had asked Longhorn fans whether they were willing to keep Shaka one more year in order to get Greg Brown III, I think a majority of them would say peace out Shaka — I’ll take my chances we bring in a high profile coach who is able to keep Greg in Austin.

However, with the Horns now firing on all cylinders with three straight wins, including Monday’s victory over the No. 20 West Virginia, I think a lot of fans may be second guessing the decision to fire Shaka. I know I am. And if the Horns somehow pull it off and make March Madness, or even go a step further and make a March Madness run, keeping Shaka in Austin becomes a no brainer.
