THATS MY QUARTERBACK!
Seriously, what a fucking guy. If you don’t know the story behind the 2005 Heisman Trophy here you go:
Shortly after Texas whopped USC’s ass in devastating fashion to win the 2005 National Championship, news dropped that Reggie Bush had taken illegal benefits aka a house/money for he and his family. Yawn.
Unfortunately for Reggie though, the NCAA being the scum of the earth that they are, did not take Reggie looking after his family so lightly and stripped Reggie of his Heisman he had won just months prior.
Enter Vince.
Vince was 2nd place in the Heisman race that year, so, when Reggie got stripped of the Heisman the NCAA asked VY if he would to take it. Vince being a young 21 year old kid, who was on top of the world after bringing a Natty and Natty MVP back to Austin couldn’t possibly turn down the Heisman, right? WRONG! Because Vince isn’t me and he isn’t you. Vince is a legend, badass and an America hero — which is why he told the NCAA to go fuck themselves. LOVE IT.
Vince has gotten a lot of heat since his post Texas days. And while I get he’s shot himself in the foot a time or two, people should never forget this man is and will always be a LEGEND and to put some respect in his name when you speak it. Because true legends are people who do the right thing when no one is listening and no one is watching. And that’s what this story is all about. Vince has never publicly spoken about turning down the Heisman, he didn’t go on a book tour to talk about it, he didn’t have someone else leak it to the press, not once did he look for a pat on a back for turning it down, he made this move simply out of respect to Reggie and for no other reason. CLASS ACT.
